Mandrake 10.0, webmin, ports

Right after installing webmin on a Mandrake 10.0 distribution, it works fine. But next time I start up the system, webmin no longer works: It can't connect to port 10000.

Using nmap, I see that port 10000 is open after installing webmin, but no longer open after a restart. There are about 6-8 ports opened; all the rest are closed

What do I do to open up port 10000? So far guarddog has not helped. Using the Mandrake Control panel> Security, I have tried to modify the firewall, even to open all ports, but nothing seems to happen. The settings just don't change.

Something apparently closes most of the ports on startup and that something is not something I can alter using the security configuration that comes with Mandrake 10.0. Contrl Center. Is there some bug in the security program?

Tks

Make sure that the webmin service is even on with the command netstat -pantu and look for an entry on port 10000. Next open the guarddog configuration tool and click the protocols tab. Select the "internet" zone and find webmin or port 10000 in the window on the right. Check the box and select "Apply" and "OK". That should open up the webmin port. If it's still not working, perform an external portscan of the system (simply nmapping yourself won't work). If you don't have a second box to do a portscan, then use one of the free online services from grc.com or sygate.
