It might be fastest to search the www for: linux recover lost password
One way is to: interrupt grub, e to edit, arrow down to linux line, add/change:
rw init=/bin/sh
You can web-research this if you didn't follow. Let us know.
No forum should tell you how to reset the access password on your machine.
How would you feel if your PC got lost and the forum helped the thief to bypass your password??
...a how-to guide from the Mint website. Read the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature.

Seriously??? Questions like this have been asked and answered on this very forum thousands of times, along with the MILLIONS of web-links for such things, ranging from BIOS passwords to admins who quit. Posts exists for this for Mac, Windows, and Linux, going back years.
What do you think someone should do? Reload their entire system because someone quit and changed passwords before they left? Or fat-fingered their new password?
I meant that they should not tell you what your password is. Resetting it to a one time value or the default is fine!!
Based on this (bold added for emphasis)

..it certainly *SEEMS* like you're saying that no one should tell you how to reset a lost/forgotten/changed password. The OP even stated very clearly that they lost the password, and asked how to reset it.
I believe post #4 is just a moral judgement, not a useful technical answer.
As a matter of fact it does contain a clue. If you don't like a fellow members posting style then there's always the killfilter.

Sorry if this comes across as a bit harsh but this thread is about solving IR54's problem, not yours.
So if you have beef with other members you can't solve yourself do page moderators.
But please do so w/o hanging out the laundry in public, thanks!

You're relatively new here with few posts under your belt so you may need to acclimatize some more.
All in all I'd say we've managed well so far w/o FB-"like" thumbs up/down.
