Post LOGS ?


Hi to all,
I have connected to my friends machine, for some reason . all the logs are wiped out . ?

CentOS .

/var/log/secure
/var/log/messages

there is nothing there ?? is this a unusual to Linux systems ? and how do i fix this ?

It could be that the logs have just rolled over. Are there any logs in the /var/log directory with number suffixes? Like messages.1 and syslog.1?

Although you should still see something in the logs after a few minutes or so.

No there is nothing there for a whie . but thank you very much for looking into it.

but i figured the problem .

it was because VMWARE . once installed on your system by default it disables all log files.

to recover from this . run those commands.


restorecon -v /etc/services
service syslog restart

Sorry but i need to ask why dose VMWARE disable all log files when installed ?
