Unhappy login failure

Well while my dad was installing linux he typed the password wrong and we dont know what the password is
i tried a wide variety of codes like making a new account by typing
usermod -u 0 " username"
and i typed "su"
and i tried another one but most of them said error and the one that i typed as su said nothing it just skipped to the next sentence in the shell.

So your dad b0rked the root account, great :-]
Just reboot and drop into single mode by appending "single init=.bin.sh" at the LILO boot prompt. Then change the pass.
