Login errors - think it is pam

Hi.
When I run hte login command from xterm, it gives me the prompt.
When I type another username and his password, it gives me a
login incorrect message and prompts again. when I type
the same username and password as the one running the login it gives a Login expired message.
I think it has something to do with PAM, but I can't seem to get it
working.
I'm running an own-server-thingy and whant to initialize login from a pty i created.

I think it has something to do with PAM
Then log in as root and read your syslog messages (for instance "grep pam /var/log/messages") for clues.
See /etc/syslog.conf for an overview of where your system stores messages. "login expired" means the account was aged without details updated on time. Read "man chage", log in as root, chage the account for which you get the "login incorrect" message and change their password.
