Hello all

I am having apeculiar kind of problem when I login to my machine through GUI I am able to login as root but when I go to command prompt it does not allow me to login.

Well I have tried changing the password but no results.
I am using RHEL 4.0.

So what kind of problem is this:scratch:

Seems a unique problem.. May be the /etc/securetty file have tty1 to tty6 commented to prevent the root login in the CLI.

REL 4.0 comes with 2.6 kernel that has Selinux enabled. That to can be a problem.

In the /etc/grub.conf you can pass selinux=0 at the end of the kernel parameter to boot without selinux.
