Also ... approach your research by clearly establishing what you mean by "security" in your paper or in a particular part of it, then follow-through on that setup by explaining how the Linux kernel (in its "stock" and/or in its "hardened" forms) does or does not address that particular meaning of the term. Since the term "security" is quite broad, it is also nebulous. Plant a particular target in the ground, then shoot it bulls-eye, then plant another target and repeat until the paper's done. Make it very clear to the reader (professor) what the intended target is, and also what it is not.
