Linux Permission


Hey guys in our win03 server i can configure a cetain folder shared or not to be access by particular users or groups. is there a way for this to be possible on linux?

Um..right click the folder-->properties-->permissions.

The way his question reads, I think he's asking how to make exceptions to the permissions.

SBN, could you clarify? An example would be great.

Maybe just create a group specifically for that purpose and just add users as you see fit.

That way, you create a directory with the group permissions set to whatever you please, which allows that access to all the users in that group.

Once again, the way the question is asked it seems he's asking how to set users/groups which do NOT have access.

Or perhaps he just phrased it wrong and he is indeed asking how to do the ubiquitous group membership thing.

Anyhow, hopefully he'll be posting soon with a clarification. Let's wait and see.

Sorry for the confusion guys ... what im trying to say is that in windows i can set a folder regardless if its shared or not, to be accessed by user1, user2, group1, group2 except user3 and group3. and im trying to figure out if this is also possible on linux.

Yes, you can assign these types of permissions by using ACLs.
