Linux as firewall / gateway + using ADSL
Hi
being new to the Linux world I was wondering the following: I have an old machine which I would like to setup SUSE (or any other suggested)on to it. Primarily as a firewall where my other machine..(win200, sorry!) will use the SUSE machine as a gateway. Could anyone point me to a tutorial or information regarding setting up a very minimal install so that I can do this ? The main reason why I wan t this si to learn Linux, and have the safety when going online using a premanent connection. does this make sense.. I am playing around with iptables etc but I am still very much a beginner regards Gianni |
Yes, it does.
You will also need to do IP forwarding and Masquerading. SuSe has GUI tools to help you setup your network. If you want an easy way to setup a firewall. Try Firestarter: Firestarter http://firestarter.sourceforge.net/ Shorewall http://www.shorewall.net/ |
Thanks very much. I have KDE at the moment so I'll take a look at the other product and it seems firestarter rquires GNOME.
thanks again! Gianni Quote:
