I have a question about setting up a kisok.. I am a network administrator Minnesota Sate Community and Technical College basically what I want to do is set up site that is a locked down server... Basically So students are only able to access the minnesota.edu page and then only college websites or links on that page... Also nothing in an address bar.. so they cant put anything in favorites.. really locked down basically so they can view the contents of the page and go to the specific links we want them to view.. we also need a back door so we can make different configuration changes as needed. I am assuming that is accomplished by logging on as SU as root. Any additional info you need or need I can provide. Please email me if you would be able assist with this or answer here in the forum. Thank you,
~Brian
sounds like a job for squid. Just set it up so that everything is denied except for your minnesota.edu page. you wouldn't even have to worry about the address bar, they could type away at it, but couldn't get there because squid would squash the attempt and give them a nice little message saying not to do that.
for a little extra control, you could also set up your X session so that all they would get is a browser instead of a normal kde or gnome desktop by using .xinitrc in the home dir of a generic user that is always logged in.
Thank you for the additional help... I do have a couple of further questions if you don't mind... could you email me? mysticpain@yahoo.com I believe it would be easier than posting through the board and I am trying to get this done today. Thank you.
You have crossposted a message, which is against the LQ Rules. Cross-posting is considered bad netiquette on your part, a waste of resources on LQ's part and a waste of time for LQ members who take the time your question. Please do not do that again.
