kde 3.2 and usr/lib/libkdeui.so.4

Hi ALL ,

I installed the latest version of KDE 3.2 and since then i having been having nothing but fun. This seems to be the principal problem. All the software i installed before upgrading the KDE 3.2 and the software i install after installing KDE 3.2 all seem to be refusing to start because of this error

guarddog: relocation error: /usr/lib/libkdeui.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN9QGroupBox10setEnabledEb

This is my second software that conked out on me.

The other one was KMyFirewall The error that KMyFirewall gave was the same as this before i went and changed and renamed some files based on the error message after which it started giving me segmentation fault.

Ay insights into what's causing this and how this canbe rectified IS DEEPLY APPRECIATED

Regards ,

The reason you are having this problem is because the new version of kde doesn't seem to have a symbol (function) defined in the newer version that was in the old version. This is a problem because guardog was compiled with dynamic links to the older version and the dynamic loader freaks out when it can find all the symbols.

So, how to fix it. The easy answer. Go download the source of guardog and compile it yourself. Then it will link to the new version and you are good to go.

`/usr/lib/libkdeui.la' is not a valid libtool archive

Hi ,

I did what ypu told me to do. Downloaded the .tar.gz folder and then unzipped it. Then i moved it to /usr/lib/guarddog-2.2.0 After which i did "compile" and then i did

"make install prefix=/usr" based on the how to given in instructions file

When i typed in this i get an error message that reads this

`/usr/lib/libkdeui.la' is not a valid libtool archive

Any ideas on how to proceed after this or what this means ??

Regards ,
