ipcop no setup w/putty..

Hope this is the right forum, I didn't see a distro forum for ipcop so here goes.
I have ipcop setup on a pc and it works fine except when i login with putty i get
"Could not chdir to home directory /root: No such file or directory"
I do do most commands and they run etc, if i run setup then it says couldn't open log terminal.
Any ideas?
I posted this on ipcops.com but there site has been down for 3 days.

When you log in you should already be in the root home directory.

than why am i getting the error right when i log in, and why do i get the log error when i try to run setup?
