Question Ipchains vs iptables

Hi,

I have installed Red Hat Linux 7.1, version 7.1, on a computer which will be my firewall.

I were going to run ipchains to secure my home network, but now I am rather confused. A friend of mine said that I should use iptables instead and that iptables were going to replace ipchains. But when I tried to find more information about the difference between those two methods of security, I read that iptables is "new and experimental".

What should I choose for security? Is one of them more secure or easier to setup?

Ipchains is default with 7.1
Iptables is better as it has more options, but it hasn't been out in the fields as long so its likely that there are more security issues with it.
Like the FTP bug that was discovered shortly after it was released.

If your looking for information on iptables search for netfilter as that's it project name.

Also you get more options with iptables like forwarding without extra module support and timing options on certain packets to help with DOS attacks and other performance related issues.

Read this for more info.
