IPchains on 2.4.x kernel


can ipchains be used on any of the newer (2.4.x) kernels?

Yes it's run as default on most 2.4 kernels.

You should disable it and use iptables, which is also inculded on the system.

i have been having a lot of trouble with ipchains... which is the configuration file used to configure iptables?

there isn't "A config file" iptables is a tool you use to achieve different things. frequnetly fiels like /etc/rc.firewall may be used, by there's no "file" as such. read the docs!

Lightbulb howto remove IPChains

Cleanest way to get rid of ipchains in to un-install it all together. Some may tell you to unload the module, but if you don't need it or want it, get rid of it.

[root@localhost /]$ rpm -e ipchains
[root@localhost /]$ reboot

well, to be truthful, i dont mind using whatever is the most useful... i guess i could use iptables...problem is i dont know where the config file is for it... any idea?
