increase security

I'm looking to increase my server security, and looking for sugestion.

First of all my home LAN is behind a router with a Firewall, and the only port I have forwarded is one for ssh.

I want to setup tripwire, and something that will tell me everyone that trys to log in, but I'm a newbie to this and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of some site explain how to set them up

I'm running RH 7.2

Use Securing-Optimizing-Linux even tho this one's RH specific it contains the Tripwire stuff in chapter 17. A more general overview of securing would be in the Linux Security HOWTO.
If you want more to read, try here for links: possibly a dumb(..) (my second reply).
