Im running syslogd. I also have my PIX firewall logs being written to my linux syslog

Syslogd behaviour writing is dependant on how it's configured in /etc/syslog.conf: depending on facility (*what* writes?; kernel, daemons, etc, etc) and after the dot the loglevel (debug, info, critical, etc,etc) and (tab) where the log resides and what log it is.
