id field in inittab difference between ~ and ~~

Hello,

On RHEL 5, the manpage for inttab shows using:

~:S:wait:/sbin/sulogin

to have the system prompt for a password at single user mode. Most references I am finding on the Internet show using:

~~:S:wait:/sbin/sulogin

Note the extra "~" in the id field. Anyone have an idea what the difference is, if any?

Thanks!

It's cosmetic. The id (first field) just needs to be a unique 1-4 character item.
