Smile I have Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on Dell 5150 with system P/W.USB keyboard will not key in pw

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 that had Windows XP Pro. I put a new SATA hard disk into it and installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and all was fine until I decided to used a system password. I went into setup, security and choose system password. Put in the password and restarted.

This is what comes up on the screen:
"----
Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A07
Copyright 1985-1988 Phoenix Technologies Ltd.
Copyright 1990-2006 Dell Inc.

Dell DM051 Series
BIOS version A07
www.dell.com

Drive 1 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-2

Type the system password and press <ENTER>
Enter password: _ "blinking cursor".
"

USB keyboard will not enter no keystrokes in password area.

Is my only option to go back to my win xp disk and see if it will let me enter setup and undo the system password? Then if that does not work contact dell. Or is there a way I can get the Keyboard to work at that level of the system start/up on this disk? Any suggestions or ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

Wild guess: in times past, some systems struggled with USB keyboards. If you have an old PS2-connecting keyboard, see if that will get through your BIOS and let you into Ubuntu so you can mess with the password again.

This computer does not have any PS/2 ports.

The manual which can be easily downloaded has instructions for resetting the password.
