Post how to restrict a linux user ?

Hi,
I have recently setup an ubuntu server with ltsp. There will about 5 groups (4-7 users per group )accessing the server through thin clients. Each group should have its own set of permissible applications and each user will have his own folder. I want to know how can i restrict a user to his own folder and provide the desired application access.

Thanks.

If you only want to prevent users from looking at each others filesystems, then you can use standard file permissions to do so. If you wish to lock them into their home directory and prevent them from browsing the entire filesystem you should take a look at chroot jails. There are a number of links to the various chroot jail projects in Security References thread .
