"how to map remote system ?"

QUESTION : I want to map a remote system (connected to the internet) on my system, so that I can see that system in "MY COMPUTER" of my system like other drives (C: D: A: etc).

I have complete information about that remote system, i.e. IP address, Domain name, Passwords etc.

What technologies, protocols, APIs should I use?
If u have any solution or idea about this, please tell me.
or u can mail me mesharam.amit@rediffmail.com

""REMOTE SYSTEM FOR WINDOWS XP PRO""

Thanks in advance

if your remote system is a linux box and you have a local linux box installed you could just forward the samba port of your local box to the remote machine through ssh
i guess.. will someone correct if i am wrong. i haven't tried this really.

man ssh for additional info.

You should investigate a VPN package to do this. Easiest way might be to get a VPN router since it'll handle most of the gruntwork for you.

You also can set up an SSH tunnel to do it, as described here.

Hey

There is one thing you forgot to mention. Is your remote system sitting on a internal network or external network. If it is a external network then follow " jiml8 " advice as he is on the right track. If your system sits on a internal network then you may use Remote desktop or install VNC on your Xp box.

If what is needed is just the files to be shared from the XP box then share the directory and give the XP directory the correct permissions and using Samba client from the Linux box to connect to this share.

Cheers
Tony
