How to install iptables
hello,
My name is Gaurav Sharma,I m phasing the problem of iptables,pls tell me the whole procedure to install iptables in a system,pls help me.pls give me any idea.
I m working on Mandrik Linux,I m installing the APF(Advanced Policy Firewall). iptables hv not installed in Linux,so I hv installed the APF but when i restart the service apf then i phase error(unable to load ip_table).I want to know what r the installation steps of iptables.
I hv followed these steps:
1. Download package iptables-1.3.5
2. cd /tmp
3. tar -xvjf ./iptables-1.*.*.tar.bz2 -C /usr/src
4. cd /usr/src/iptables-1.*.*
after this step when i execute 5. step it gives the
make:cc : command not found
make:***: [extensions/libipt_ah_sh.o] error 127
5. /bin/sh -c make

I think the iptables need some kernel support for it to work. I'm not sure though does it affect the compile process, though. You can check about the kernel configuration from http://www.gentoo-wiki.com atleast.

what you want is the iptables binary package (rpm) which is on your mandrake CD...
once you've found it, you can install it with a:

rpm -ivh iptables-*.rpm

you dont have hte proper compiling tools installed ( seeing how 'cc' isnt found ). either install them or use a package as the other person said.
