how to get root in android, the linux 2.6 based mobile os. help needed

so it seems like another thread whom is a candidate for closure due to it's seemingly illegal nature. i do hope that is not the case as the phone belongs to me, i bought it out right. but i bought it from my carrier and as such it is locked down pretty tight. i tried asking both my carrier and htc for help with my root password. rogers, my carrier, knows nothing about anything. htc claims that there is no such thing as root on my distribution, which i know is not possible. all i really want to do is move some folders to removable memory and link from their original location. too much to ask? apparently. so any help in possible security holes i could use to gain root on my phone to change these directories around would be awesome i have tried mobile forums and mobile developer forums but all they can figure out is flashing etc, and at that not on my carriers version.

This request isn't compatible with the LQ Rules. I would actually think that the potential legal ramifications of allowing such a discussion to take place here at LQ would be obvious. This thread is closed.
