How to adjust log retention?

Hi,

I was just reading someone's interesting thread about his experiences with having his server compromised and noted his steps to take for future experience. Anyway, I noted that he said that one of his steps was to adjust the log retention time from 3 weeks to some months instead. My question is, how do you do this? A quick search returned not much at all.

Btw, I'm running Slackware distribution.
