Exclamation How secure is the atalkd service?

Is atalkd more secure than FTP to get web files into web directories?

Trying to avoid getting thousands of files up one by one through a ssh reverse ftp get ... plus I hate running an ftp server on my dev machine because stupid Qworst firewalls port 20/21 so I have to remap to another port... blah... blah...blah.

Its just a big frelling pain in the arse, and would rather use something simpler, but more secure than ftp.
