Question How safe are Live Linux CDs -- for my mom

How safe are Live Linux CDs? Note when I say "safe" I am primarly referring to online safety. In another post (under software) I was asking for help because I could get Linux to install but not boot, so the only way I could get online was to do it all via the Live CD.

In this case, MEPIS 3.43.

The reason I ask "how safe" is this: I am only at my mom's place for the weekend and doubt I will be able to sort the original issue (regarding my other post) in time, so I was wondering, if all she wants to do is check her email, would showing her how to use the Live MEPIS 3.43 CD be worth my while?

Remember, online security (i.e., avoiding password sniffers, etc) is my concern. We have DSL. I suspect if she just wants to check her email she should be ok, but I want a 2nd opinion.

Thanks!!!!

A Linux live CD is a great idea for anybody that wants to check their email safely. You don't have to worry about viruses or adware from attachments or shady sites.

Maybe it's just me, but worrying about stuff like packet sniffers seems to be a bit overboard. If you've got enemies in the wrong places who want your info, they'll get it some way or another. Can you hear the black helicopters circling overhead yet?

If you're really paranoid, use your DSL connection to download a live CD of Anonym.OS.

Some of the others here might have some different ideas, or might even tell you not to listen to me.
My 2 cents,

Baltika
