how Linux show itself as Win OS in a network

hi,

I have internet connection from a cable operator which provides me the internet through a LAN cable. He has restriction that only Windows operating system should be used by the users to access the internet. He monitors the network and if he founds Linux machine he blocks its MAC. Problem is I want to use my ubuntu to do some project. Can I change some configurations in ubuntu so that the admin cannot see the linux and instead my ubuntu show itself as a windows machine on the network? Second what thing in linux might be disturbing for him to block linux on his network? (he is not that friendly to tell this thing.)

Thanks,
Touseef

Dump your operator. I've never heard such BS before. There's nothing "disturbing" in Linux for him. He's just afraid of the bogeyman.

Educating would be a more constructive option, but I understood that he was not very receptive. Maybe it's still worth a try?

You could also play with him, by changing your MAC address every time he blocks you. That game can go on for a very long time.

Where do you live? Its BS and I'd dump your operator too.
Really just enable your firewall, blocking ALL incoming, and modify your Firefox's identification. Insert his line in the ~/.mozilla/firefox/fwl1y1qy.default/prefs.js file in alphabetical order.
Code:
user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)");

Just setup a NAT with a simple firewall, maybe a linksys router etc, and have your windows or linux box behind it on a private subnet..that way there is no way for him to scan your computers outside your firewall as long as you dont forward ports which could be identified as unix services through an nmap scan etc. Else if you just want Linux, DROP all packets including icmp-echo requests.
