Angry how do i update errata


hi guys..... m a newbie

so am comparing everythign on linux with windows.
as windows had autoupdate feature, with tat we able to update every patch and fix for the all the OS and application running.
DO linux red hat 9 have nything like that , my up2date isnt working.
anyother way tat i can download updates easily and install it, to have my linux up to date with no vulnerabiliy.

I think you need a lincence from RedHat to be able to use up2date but I'm not sure about it. Check redhat documentation or web site.

the first thing you wanna do is stop using a distro that isn't supported anymore...

give mandrake linux a try, it comes with a tool called URPMI, which let's you do what you're asking about easily...

there's also lots of other (supported) distros that come with automatic package management systems... i can think of suse, fedora, debian, etc...

if you really need to use rh9, then you can use a tool called apt4rpm to do automatic package management...

Mandrake has the Update option in the Control Center, which uses Urpmi to deal with downloading and dependancies, but for autoupdates you could either schedule it to be run every so often, or look into the new MandrakeOnline system.
