Hide hostname in telnet


Dear all,



linux@linux:~> telnet localhost
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
Welcome to SUSE LINUX 10.1 (i586) - Kernel 2.6.16.21-0.25-smp (2).

linux login:


Can some on tell me how to hide the hostname in telnet login.
I know telnet is not secure. But i want to know how to hide this
Can Some one help me in this case please!

Something to do with /etc/issue(.net).

Did you actually look? /etc/issue has been around for *centuries*. Make a simple change to it, and see if it makes a difference to your login.

Reading 'man telnetd' gives you: "If the file /etc/issue.net is present, telnetd will display its contents before the login prompt of a telnet session (see issue.net5)." In 'man issue' notice "char sequences". On to 'man mingetty', check at "ISSUE ESCAPES".
