Help with P.H.L.A.K
I need help configuring Phlak to use my wirless card.
I'm running the latest live cd on my lappy-tappy (which is an Advent 7096) which has a built in 802.11b/g wireless card. I'm not sure of the model or chipset, but I DO know it is made by Ralink Technology Inc. My Ubuntu Live cd picks it up without a hitch!
I decided to download Phlak on a bit of a half cocked decision and didnt check out the hardware support. The reason I got it was I had heard it came with airsnort which I need, as I have decided to try a bit of penetration testing on my wi-fi network.
Failing that, would Knoppix STD be a viable option (re: my wireless card).
I'm a security n00b, but I dont really care about ease of use. I like pain and find the deep end a fun place to play.
Any advice would be gratefully recieved and please, no RTFM's!
If you need any more info at all, just ask and I'll find out whatever I can.

I'm not sure of the model or chipset
...and you *know* you need to know that to get things working, right?
I had heard it came with airsnort which I need
which shouldn't be hard to compile anyway, isn't it? I'd like to think apps like Airsnort are distribution-agnostic enough.
Either way, following basic taxonomy (NP if you didn't get that) part of your post should reside in Linux/Networking/Wireless to fix your card probs and part in Linux/Software to fix any Airsnort probs. We can:
- move this thread to a forum of choice, or
- split it up, or
- you can make two new threads, notify me and I'll close this one adding FUP links.
Pick one ;-p

I am aware that I need to know the model and chipset, but, short of cracking open my laptop and LOOKING, i haven't a clue how to find out that info.
I think I should mention I am running XP as my primary OS, hence my using live distros. But that's by-the-by.
About this thread, what would you suggest? I'm not fussed

"lspci -v" for device info, lsmod to see what modules got loaded (or any dmesg output or /var/log/ksymoops/*.(modules|log).
About this thread, what would you suggest?
Decide if you want to stay with Ubuntu Live or KNOPPIX-STD (quick win wrt wifi):
yes) make a thread in the distro's forum or Linux/Software to fix Airsnort.
no) make a thread in Linux/Networking/Wireless to fix card probs.
