Group passwords ? why ....

I can not believe I do not know the answer to this ... after using linux all these years

But I have recenly discovered that groups can have passwords, so my question once I set a password what good is it ?

Does it stop people from joining the group ?

i may be wrong, but a guess would be that it's one of those things (like the sticky bit) that someone decided to add and semi-standardize but nobody uses cause it's pointless. like i said, maybe i'm wrong

How can i set default password while creating user thru "useradd" command.
