Granting Permission
 
Well from the root i have created a user oracle which is under a group oinstall. also i had made a disk partition /oradata while manually creating partitions. when i log in as oracle and run the oracle appl software i am failing to write data in /oradata.
I then logged in as root and changed the permission thru
# chmod 777 oradata.
But no effect is on the permission which showing the previous value

did you mount the partition before doing the chmod ?

Are you in / when you try this? Try chmod 777 /oradata
