Firewall Testing

I checked out the "security references" thread at the top but it overwhelmed me. I have never had to worry about this before but just set up a VPS with centos running it.

I have the firewall configured in a basic default set up and was wishing that there would be an easy test like Gibson Research offers for your PC firewall.

I was going to recommend ShieldsUP! for testing your firewall, however if you are going through a router, sometimes it will give back false positives (like port 113). What I would probably do is install nmap on another computer and scan your box in which you want to test the firewall. I would tell you to scan 127.0.0.1 from the machine but that will give back more detail then an attack would see.

I perhaps should have added that the server is a remote VPS from a commercial hosting provider. KnownHost to be exact.

Then scanning it with nmap should work out well.
