Firewall recommendations

I've got a AMD k6/2 400 mhz box I'd like to build a firewall out of. Currently I'm considering Smoothwall, Ipcop, Astaro, Mandrake Network Firewall, OpenBSD, and firewallbuilder. I would like to set up something I can learn from but I don't want to spend a month configuring it and cursing. Also I am already behind NAT so if there might be any complications w/ that, let me know. I appreciate any opinions or help offered.

Smoothwall is easy to set up and has many options. There will be no problem with NAT. You'll just use local address.

For a firewall system I suggest OpenBSD ... "secure by default" :-)

I'm firing up Prozgui to get smoothwall right now. How long is the learning process on OpenBSD? I was wondering if firewallbuilder would cut the time down on that. Thanks for your recommendations so far.

Well there is no LEARNING PROCESS TIME since it always depends on your skills and of course on your intelligence, etc :-)

Well, my time is limited since I'm in the US military. I'm an intermediate Linux user. I just don't want something I spend weeks cursing over and have to end up buying a book for like Samba.

shorewall's not hard to setup...but since its basically a iptables script it can still be very customizable.

I'll also vote for Smoothwall.
The ver2 is nice in beta, has a few small bugs but is easy to learn from.

There's a good comprehensive http://iptables-tutorial.frozentux.n...-tutorial.html
and an easy to use rule interface at http://firestarter.sourceforge.net/ if you want to look deeper.
