hi, i have a problem! i have a win2000 and a red hat linux dual boot on my computer! because of the firewall on linux, i cant access my internet or msn messenger, i am also unable to play any online games, i tried to sort this problem by setting my firewall to medium and the customizing what i wanted to be unblocked! after doing this i click ok. when i then went on Win 2000 to use msn messenger and the internet i found that i was unable to, i decided to look at the firewall on linux again and when i did i found that it had set itself back to "high" someone HELP!!!!!! i want to be able to use msn messenger and the internet !!!!!!!!!!
I guess you are using Lokkit in Red Hat 8.0(Gui Security Configuration). This is known to have a few issues when saving rules. Check your iptables configuration with
iptables -L
I had simular problems and now just use iptables to setup firewall rules, www.netfilter.org
Before I started with iptables I used Firestarter which is a GUI for setting up firewall rules. This seemed to cure the Lokkit problems.
Just a point about the Redhat Firewall GUI. In RH8, it's got a bug (feature?) that no matter what level you set it to, when you look at the settings it will still say "high". However the level has indeed changed and the appropriate changes have been applied to iptables. As for the rest of the question, I would have to agree with Chris that the wording is a bit confusing. Maybe if you tried to explain.
