Firewall and server in one
A question from your new rookie on linux!
Would it be crazy to run a linux firewall, with a web server and samba all on it?
Currently I use smoothwall version 1 for my firewall. I want to setup a web server in home off my cable connection. Also I would like to store files on it so my windows pc's can access the files using samba.
It would be nice to consolidate all this into one pc.
Thanks

nope not at all. just have your firewall on eth0 to the world and eth1 to your lan and you should be good to go. I wouldnt suggest that for a business, but at home, what the hell.

yip, I do it. I use mandrake 9.1, with shorewall as the firewall. It runs samba, nfs, apache (to 'net), ssh, ftp, and CUPS. If you want a hand with config (especially of shorewall) feel free to email me
