Post Firewall & IDS GUI alerts on KDE: I want them!

I know I'll probably get flamed for doing a linux/windows comparison, but it's the best way I can put in words what I'm looking for. So here I go.

I have SUSE 9.1 setup as a dual boot next to Windows XP. On Windows XP I have 3rd party software as a firewall. I don't remember the name of it since I use windows hardly ever. But before, I used Norton Internet Security which was the first antivirus and firewall I ever got for windows. What I liked about it is when ever some one tried port scanning my ass or scanning me for open Trojan ports, the firewall would pop up with pretty eye candy alerts with details and what not.

Now that I'm on Linux I'm using SUSE Firewall as my firewall and SNORT as my IDS. I realize that in the Linux world there seems to be separate programs to do separate things where as in the windows world most programs are bundled together as in "do it all" tools. I also realized that most of the tools in Linux are CLI and text logs.

Now I'm all for learning how my softwhare works but there are some days that I just don't give a sh*t how it works, so long as it works. Just for once I'd like some thing in Linux to be easy so I can get my work done and not spend all day installing and setting up something just to get it to work.

Any ways, the point of this post is to ask every one if there's any possible way in linux to give me the pretty eye candy security alerts for my firewall and IDS that I had in Windows. I don't want to have to sit there for an hour shifting through snort logs.

All I want is for there to be a GUI visual alert to pop up on KDE when ever some one tries to port scan me or scan me for open Trojan ports. That's all I need and all I want.

Checkout firestarter. It's got a pretty slick graphical interface with lots doo-dads and alert screens that seem to make most windows converts feel happy

Awesome! What's more is it has a SUSE RPM so that means no compiling. You just made my day, thanks.
