What does the firefox autoupdate do? Especially when your running it as a user. How do you activate it?

Well through the wonderful multi-user system in Linux, it will update your themes and extentions. You don't need root privlegde to do that. On some distros it has more rights than others. On my slack setup I used to have, it wasn't even an option. But when I switched to Ubuntu, it would update everything but the whole program.

I am using Vector, a version of Slack, and noticed that firefox only responded to me when I loaded it with root priviledges. Maybe it was only a coincedence.
What do you mean in Slack, "it wasn't even an option"?
Thanks,
Murdock

I mean wasn't there at all. I had the latest version with feature built into it, but I couldn't use it. It just simpily wasn't there. I was told it wasn't there because it didn't have the privlages.
After thinking on this for a while, I hope I remembered all of this correctly.

Thanks!
But how does that work if it doesn't have root privileges? How do I deactivate it from certain users?
Thanks,
Murdock

If they don't have root privlages then they won't be able to update any thing but their own extensions and skins. Linux won't let them install software with out that privlage, even if they try to do it through the update feature in firefox.
