File system mounted rw but behaves as if ro
From /etc/fstab:
/dev/hdb5 /home/public2 ext3 defaults 1 2 From mount: /dev/hdb5 on /home/public2 type ext3 (rw) When I try to touch a file in /home/public2, I get the following error: touch: setting times of `/home/public2': Read-only file system If I unmount the filesystem and remount it rw, it works fine for 5 or 10 minutes. Then it reverts to read-only. Directory permissions are set correctly and the read-only behavior is enforced for all users, including root. I'm assuming there's some security setting that's causing the filesystem to be remounted ro, but haven't a clue as to where I should start looking. Suggestions? |
Problem resolved
Turns out that the file system is being remounted ro because of a journaling error. Diagnostics indicate that my hard drive is going bad. I'm sure replacing the drive will clear the problem.
