/etc/sudoers is mode 0600, should be 0440 ??

hello All,

Slackware: 10.2
kernel: 2.6.12.4

This is my first time experimenting with the /etc/sudoers file, and things aren't going to well. Whenever i try envoking "sudo ..." it gives me this error:

Code:
bash-3.00$ sudo ls
sudo: /etc/sudoers is mode 0600, should be 0440
I have edited the /etc/sudoers file to allow one regular user, maxl, to run the program QEMU. I've tried reinstalling sudo but after installation and ldconfig i still get this error.

I have also googled around for an answer and ran into some pages that said this was a known bug, but i just wanted to ask here just incase someone has figured something out.

Thanks in advance

I looked at my /etc/sudoers file. The permissions on mine are 0640.

First check what they are: ls -l /etc/sudoers

You could try changing the permissions as root: chmod 0640 /etc/sudoers
chown root:root /etc/sudoers

How did you edit it. You need to use the "visudo" program to edit it.

Hey. running visudo to edit /etc/sudoers fixed my problem. originally i had used just plain ol' vi to edit this file, i guess it doesn't like it.

Thanks!
