Encryption within Encryption

q: how does encryption within encryption work?
such as my entire file system is encrypted. if I were to encrypt an archive within that system is it double encryption? does it negate the encryption? does the encrypted file stand out like a zit within the filesystem? or maybe something I haven't thought of yet?

thanx for the input :)

They are at completely different levels. If you encrypt a tar or zip archive, your hard drive treats it like any other file, whether the disk is encrypted or not.

Hi MC Reddy, and welcome to LQ.

No, the two encryptions won't "negate". It will be like a riddle wrapped up in an enigma. And no, it won't stand out, unless you make it do so.
