Question Encrypting things

I need a tool that I can use to encrypt things. Example: I have a phrase and I want to encrypt it using a password I choose and later decrypt it. What tool I can use?

Thanks

OpenSSL is pretty standard for encryption. you can choose almost any encryption system you like.
