encrypting hard drive

Hello!

I want to install Linux on my laptop, but I want to have the partitions encrypted. I really don't know where to begin with this. Would I load off a CD, or would grub or LILO supply a password to enter the system (not a root password, because that is easily bypassed by login in as a single user)?

Any help or info would be great,

You can also install the new debian etch. During installation, when creating partitions, you can ask for encrypted partitions.
