EncFS with key on a USB drive

Hello,
I would like to store the password/key which I use with encfs on a usb pen drive so I don't have to type it in/remember it. Is this possible? I cannot see anything in the help/man page except:
--extpass=program

Can I write a small program to return the password which EncFS uses and keep the program on the usb key?

I use an encFS on a USB drive, so clicked on this thread.... but this is a different request..

Perhaps a small shell script

Thats the sort of thing I was thinking. I will try it today see what happens.

This seems to work, but I have not got it to be very stable. Every now and then it doesn't except the programs output as the password.
