DVD Protection

Hi guys!

I have a large amount of data files that I would like to backup on a DVD. The DVD should, however, be either password protected (i.e. only accessible with after you have given a password) or encrypted. Preferably, I want the files to be accessed easily once I have given my password/phrase, because some of them are quite large and decrypting them would require lots of time. Is it possible?

By the way, the password protection does not have to be extremely safe - it's just so that no one takes some confidential details from these files with ease.

Thx!

Password-protecting media itself won't work unless the (hardware) standard provides for it and AFAIK Compact Disk Yellow-Book or .*whatever-book don't (nor does ISO9660 AFAIK but that's just a filesystem). Sure there are "disk protection" schemes but they are violations of the standard. As far as filesystem, archive or file encryption is concerned there's multiple methods depending on what dependencies you can afford and how you usually access files ranging from 'openssl enc', 'rar -p' and GPG to dmcrypt, EncFS or whatever else .*crypt. Searching LQ for the term encryption should yield interesting discussions to read and find out what works best for your situation and should also make it easier to ask more specific questions about some encryption methods.
