Do I Need a Virus Scanner?
Just wondering. New to Redhat 8 and hoping to keep it as my primary OS. But in ayn M$ os, running without a virus scanner is like running across the freeway naked at 4am after a long night of tequila shots. You just don't do it a second time.
I know linux is not specifically targeted by most viruses, but is there a virus scanning program that I could/should be running? Possibly one that detects all malicious behaviour - not just viruses. ie: rootkits, scripts, worms etc.... ??
I saw this post http://http://www.linuxquestions.org...threadid=47351, but it seems to be getting away from the initial question, so I thought I'd try again.

Me personally, don't run any anti-virus software and really haven't seen a need to as of yet.
But there are anti-virus programs developed for linux, have you tried googling at all and or searching some more on this site, I know there have been many programs mentioned that could work for you if you decide to use one ?

Most (if not all) virus scanners you will find for Linux scan for Windows viruses, so if you are serving Windows machines, you might want one.

some one once mentioned there are only 5 6 virii avaible for linux ans as fancypiper said most virii progs you will find will search for windows virii there is only on virii prog avaible to lindows thats because lindows allways log you as root that s a big security problem because of file permisions a virii can not spread under linux boxes if you are not in your root acc. and i used windows 2 3 years before swithing to linux i never had virii on my computer if you take precoutions like never open a file never download from unsecure sites like that.
