Configuring FTP User


Hi,
I would like to setup a FTP user account and I having doubts, can anyone help me on the below. Thanks!

(1) Is FTP user account same as local user account?

(2) If not, how am I able to create and set the most secured
permission

(3) Do I have to create a FTP group for the user?

(3) FTP user are only allowed to access their /home directory and not
other higher directory.

create a local user and then change the shell to /sbin/nologin. so it has no access to ssh. all users will get access to their home dir only by default, so you wouldnt need to set any special permissions.

The FTP user which I have created is still able to go up the higher directory until /
Help needed again. Thanks.


The following are the ways I FTP.
(1) Using Firefox (FTP XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX)
(2) Using Edit plus to FTP
