command line tool for encrypting files!


Hi!
Is there a command line tool to encrypt files?! I have pictures/code that I would want to encrypt, just in case of soneone stoles my laptop, I don't want them to be able to get my data!! Thank you!!

There are different ways to go about this. If you have existing files and you want to encrypt them, you could use gpg. However, some people use encrypted file systems so that the file is never on the disc in an unencrypted form. It just depends on your requirements.

Thanks! encrypted filesystem sounds really great!! is it posible to also encrypt the root file system and boot from it?! is there a tool for this or is it something in kernel?!
