chroot not able to clear screen

I've recently been testing both chrootssh as well as chroot jail. I can get both running no prob. The thing is that I cannot use the normal key commands in order to clear the screen. It will only clear if I include the clear binary in my chroot environment. Has anyone ever been able to get past this? Thx.

The whole point of a chroot jail is to strictly limit what can be accessed by a user whent they are inside the chroot environment.

Your question is equivalent to asking how you can defeat the chroot jail.

That is not what I am trying to do at all. I am trying to figure out why the control-l shortcut does not work within chroot. I believe that it has something to do with mixed up environment. I understand the use of a chroot very well, but I'm trying to make it as completely transparent as possible. The chroot that I am making is not for an application, it is for a user. Thanks.

Look at the bash man page (search for Readline) for a description of the mechanism for default keybinding, and how to customize.

yeah, I checked that out, thx but it did not do it. I added a binding in /etc/inputrc within the chroot environment, but it did nothing. I'm starting to believe that I must be missing some library or something that handles the clear screen.

Okay, I found the problem. On my server, the script that I use to create my jail environment was searching for /etc/terminfo to add to the jail. This system has a termcap file instead. Therefore all I had to do was manually add the terminfo file into the /etc directory within the jail. Thanks though, idaho. Have a good one
