Chroot & SSHfs

Hi, I mounted a remote filesystem with sshfs and then tried to chroot into it. I know this sounds far too simple a solution to gain root access but I was wondering why it didn't work. The thing is, when I issued the whoami command, it said root. But I kept getting permission denied error messages. So what has happened? Will it work another way?

Thanks

I would think you might be pushing the limits of sshfs. Might ask the developer of sshfs and see what he or she says. Post back with any answers.

This is just a wild guess but it makes sense to me.

When you're chrooted into /sshfs you are root on the local computer, if you send a command like vi /sshfs/home/user/secret_stuff then something intercepts that command and sends it through teh SSH tunnel, at the other end of the tunnel a non-root user tries to open the file and lacks the permissions.
