Try running rkhunter as well, to double check it. Sometimes chkrootkit can give false results.

http://www.rootkit.nl/projects/rootkit_hunter.html

Beyond that take the machine offline. Someone will add more later im sure.

(sry if not helpful ive sort of not been active in a long time).

Actually before you do anything, take the machine offline. I found a page on showtee rootkit, its a ddos/irc tool.

Info here: http://redhat.irlp.net/hack_report.html

You're probably going to have to do a reinstall from cd/trusted media.

Also take a look at the possible sniffer log in /lib/security/www/tcp.log and check the ifconfig binary with rpm -V <package_name> (should be net-tools, but you can find it with rpm -q --whatprovides /sbin/ifconfig). Though it certainly does look like your system was compromised. Since Redhat 7.3 hasn't been supported in a really long time, I'm assuming it was running unpatched, in which case you are asking to get rooted. In the future, make sure to run a distro that is supported by the vendor/community and make sure to apply any patches that are released.

To check, if the ifconfig binary was emerged with an infected one, make a md5sum of the binary and compare it with a non effected one. I think, your chrootkit does not more than just compare these values (but I donīt know more about that tool). But if your chrootkit just compares the md5sums, a version change of the binary can also throw an alert!
